This comprehensive course will help you develop skills and experience valued by colleges and future employers. Not only will you learn how to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies at swimming pools and lakes, you’ll also discover how to deal effectively with people, fostering a confident attitude. Plus you’ll get tips for securing a lifeguard job.
Build key skills through classroom instruction and hands-on practice including:
• Surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries
• Rescue skills in the water and on land
• First aid training and professional rescuer CPR to help you prepare for any emergency
• AED Essentials, the latest requirement for lifeguarding
• Professional lifeguard responsibilities, including how to interact with the public and handle uncooperative patrons
• A waterfront module, where you learn to describe conditions that affect surveillance at a waterfront, as well as skills used in special rescue situations such as missing person procedures, searching for a scuba diver, and cold water rescue
A take-home participant’s manual will serve as a valuable reference after the class has ended.
PREREQUISITES
15 years of age before the final scheduled session (proof required). Successfully complete a required 500-yard continuous swim (consisting of 200 yards of the front crawl, 100 yards of breaststroke and 200 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke), and submerge to a minimum depth of 7 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object and return to the surface.
